CRESTVIEW, Fla. (WJHG/WECP) - If you've ever driven through the city of Crestview, then you know about the traffic congestion locals face there on a daily basis.

Since May 2018, Okaloosa County Commissioners have been working on a bypass around the city. They hope it will help alleviate some of the congestion commuters face along Highway 85.

This week, commissioners approved the location of where the bypass will be put. According to Okaloosa County Public Information Officer Christopher Saul, the bypass will be built just east of the Interstate-10 overpass located on State Road 4.

County leaders say they chose this location because it was not only cost-effective, but it would also respect environmental concerns and those who own private property in the area.

Construction should begin by the end of 2020.
