BAY COUNTY, Fla. (WJHG/WECP) - Bay County commissioners have returned from their trip to Washington D.C. as part of their efforts to push for more disaster relief to the Panhandle.
Bay County commissioners think their visit to Washington D.C. proved beneficial to hurricane relief efforts in the Panhandle. (WJHG)
Commissioners met with Senators Rick Scott and Marco Rubio along with other government agencies like the Department of Commerce, Census Bureau and FEMA.
Commissioner Griff Grifftts says their attempts to meet with congressional democrats proved to no avail. However, he is hopeful that this week's senate vote on a disaster relief package will prove successful.
Griffitts said, "I think we got to the top brass. We got to the decision makers as opposed to just the lower level employees. We met with folks that could truly make a difference in the way the agencies are run and hopefully we made some progress- I really do think we did."
Griffitts added the airplane tickets and hotel rooms were paid for by the county while most of the remaining expenses were paid by the commissioners.
