"Making a difference with our students is of the utmost importance to me, having an impact not just in the classroom, but in their lives as a whole," Johns said.
Her husband is the football coach and athletic director at the school. She taught social studies until coming to Wewachitchka High School, now she's the 10th grade English and reading teacher.
"So often they don't want to read and they want just the smallest, little tidbit," Johns said. "They don't want to engage themselves in a book on their own, but I want them to see just how exciting it is."
Johns says she wants her students to love reading because reading is knowledge and knowledge is power. She's always interacting with her students, hardly ever sitting down.
"It's just fun to be part of what they're doing and I feel like the more I'm part of their doing the more interested they are in it, and the more they are willing to discuss it, and they grow from that, they learn from that," Johns said.
School may have just started, but Johns is setting up her students for a successful school year.
