Construction begins for the new Panama City Beach Fire Rescue station
Construction for the third fire station in Panama City Beach is underway.
The new Panama City Beach Fire Rescue station will be located on Nautilus Street, which is in the center of the city, and will cut response time down.
The new station will also bring more jobs. Eighteen new firefighters will be hired for the department.
The station will also be able to withstand severe weather.
"Hiring more people, having a storm-ready station for us to be in is something that we haven't had before, so this is a great step and a good direction for our department," Panama City Beach Fire Rescue Chief Larry Couch said.
The station is going to cost about $5,000,000 to build. Couch says construction is expected to be complete in early 2020.
