Crestview woman charged with child neglect and aggravated assault

OKALOOSA COUNTY, Fla. (WJHG/WECP) - A Crestview woman is in jail after neglecting to take an infant to the hospital after sustaining a head injury.

According to the Okaloosa County Sheriff's Office, 33-year-old Danielle Blankenship failed to seek medical care for a three-month-old child after the infant sustained a fractured skull back on November 6th.

Family members say they told Blankenship the child needed medical attention for the head injury, but she did not take the child to the hospital.

Deputies say they got involved on November 29th, and that is when Blankenship took the child to a doctor. However, she did not give any information as to how the child got the injury.

Investigators say they are still determining the cause of the infant's injuries as Blankenship has given conflicting stories.
During their investigation, deputies found that Blankenship allegedly pulled a knife on her mother during a fight on or around the same day the infant suffered the head injury.

Blankenship is currently being held at the Okaloosa County jail without bond, charged with child neglect and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. Blankenship's charges could be upgraded as new information regarding the infant's fractured skull comes to light.
