Deane Bozeman seniors prepare to say goodbye to teachers and classmates

SOUTHPORT, Fla. (WJHG/WECP) - Wednesday, Deane Bozeman students returned their books, cleaned out their lockers, and seniors picked up caps, gowns, and cords.

While seniors got to walk the halls again and see classmates and teachers, some say it doesn’t make it any easier knowing they’ll soon have to say goodbye. (WJHG/WECP)

Ivan Beach, the Principal of Deane Bozeman School said, “Having the seniors back today to kind of wrap things up for them, is bittersweet. We’re excited for them but it’s been tough because this is not the way we wanted it all to end.”

While seniors got to walk the halls again and see classmates and teachers, some say it doesn’t make it any easier knowing they’ll soon have to say goodbye.

Senior Emily Bowen said, “It’s going to be very hard to say goodbye and go our separate ways but that's growing up I guess. I’m so grateful that we got this day. It means so much to me and I’m sure everyone else in our senior class. It’s very sentimental because we know this is the last day we’re going to be stepping foot in these halls together.”

Bowen has gone to Bozeman since middle school.

In that time she says the friends she's made along the way have all become something more.

“These people are like my family,” Bowen said. “Family isn’t always blood, it's people that have been there for you through the hard times and people that have loved you and cared for you. They’re that for me.”

Seniors were also surprised Wednesday when they found out faculty and staff are putting on a senior parade next week.

“So many of our students have been with us from Pre-K all the way through 12th grade so we invite all aspects of our campus to come out and celebrate,” said Beach.

While everything may not have gone according to plan this school year, seniors say they’ll have a lot to look back on as they move forward with their lives.

Bowen said, “I’m so grateful that I got to be part of this family and I’m really going to miss it.”

Bozeman hopes to hold a traditional graduation in July as well as a special graduation next week for seniors joining the military.
