DEFUNIAK SPRINGS, Fla. (WJHG/WECP) - DeFuniak Springs firefighters and police can now build a decontamination area at the fire department after a donation from a local business.

City leaders say Lowe's in DeFuniak Springs donated building supplies Thursday.

“We didn’t have the money in the City’s budget to purchase these supplies,” Lt. Jerry Hall of the DeFuniak Springs Fire Department said, “since we had no way of knowing about the COVID-19 outbreak back when the City’s budget was formulated last year. "

The decontamination room will be used by first responders who may be exposed to the coronavirus COVID-19 while responding to emergencies.

The supplies included plywood, a shower unit, vanity, sink, air conditioning window unit, and other materials needed to build the room.
