Locals enjoy Bay County Chamber of Commerce's Block Party
Dozens of people partied in the streets of downtown Panama City during the Bay County Chamber of Commerce's Annual Block Party. It's not every day you find people racing beds in Bay County but a party is a party.
"We had a good time. Lost a screw in our wheel, had a wreck. Can't get any better than that," said Lu Jones with the team "Liberty For All."
Dozens of people raced decorative beds, danced to live music and ate free food at the Bay County Chamber of Commerce Block Party.
Lu Jones and her team "Liberty For All' competed in the bed races for the first time this year. Jones said even though her team didn't come in first place they still had a great time.
Bay County Chamber of Commerce President Carol Roberts said it's all about celebrating the community's resilience after a tough year.
"It's time to relax. We've all been stressed and it's a time to come out and enjoy one another," said Roberts.
During the event, Bay County was recognized as a 2019 Great American Defense Community.
An award is given by the National Association for Defense Communities to only five communities across the country each year for their support of service members.
"That relationship between the military and the community is a proven one and it only got stronger after Hurricane Michael," said National Association of Defense Communities Bill Parry.
Winners of the races were also given awards and prizes.
