WALTON COUNTY, Fla. (WJHG/WECP) - Dune Lakes Elementary School is already getting an award in its first year open.
At Tuesday’s Walton County School Board meeting, the constructors of the school presented an award for excellence in construction to the board.
The award is presented by the association of builders and contractors of northwest Florida.
Dune Lakes Elementary officially opened its doors July 31, 2019.
Childers Construction Company director John Daum said it's a big deal that Dune Lakes got this award because the school is unique to Walton County.
"It has so many features that were built into it that really make the building special, the finishes are just not what you see in a normal school, it really kind of sets itself apart from a lot of other schools that you see around here," said Daum.
More than 700 students in kindergarten through fifth grade attend Dune Lakes.
