An early morning house fire caused heavy damage to one home and partially damaged another.

According to the City of DeFuniak Springs Fire Department, crews responded to a call just before 4:30 Monday morning in the 500 block of East Sloss Avenue.

When they arrived, they said one house was showing heavy smoke and flames appeared to be reaching one of the neighboring houses.

Officials said the resident of the fully involved structure got out without injury and the nearby property was empty.

Walton County Fire Rescue, Argyle Volunteer and Liberty Volunteer Fire Departments helped put out the fire.

The State Fire Marshal's office is investigating the nature of the fire, but believe it is accidental at this time.
