Eastbound portion of 23rd Street Flyover is now open
The eastbound portion of the 23rd street flyover opened up this week. Florida Department of Transportation Spokesperson, Ian Satter said since the westbound portion opened last year in August, traffic flow has improved and they've seen fewer accidents in the area.
Now that the eastbound portion is open, they believe the roadway will be even safer.
“Traffic in that area is running much more smoothly and efficiently. There's no more stopping at that intersection. There is no more stopping for a train or a traffic signal. We are seeing a lot of improvement with traffic flow. We have seen a lot less traffic crashes through that area as well,” Satter said.
Satter is asking everyone to be careful and vigilant as they travel the new roadway. He said the project is scheduled to be complete in 2021.
