Eglin Air Force Base conducting operations in Gulf of Mexico

EGLIN AIR FORCE BASE, Fla. (WJHG/WECP) - Between November 1-3 and November 6-8, locals may hear some noise coming from the Gulf of Mexico and Choctwhatchee Bay. The 53rd Weapons Evaluation Group will be testing munitions about 20 nautical miles south of Destin.

Fighter aircraft will release munitions from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. Starting at 1 p.m. and lasting until 5 p.m., about 30 boats will travel in formation between Mid-Bay Bridge and the Highway 331 Bridge. The formation will be used as visual targets by flying aircraft over the area. No weapons will be involved with the boat formation.

Eglin Air Force Base officials say some boats will have mock-up, fake deck guns and rocket launcher tubes. The boats will also be shooting flares.
