EASTPOINT, Fla. (WJHG/WECP) - According to Franklin County Sheriff's officials, the Florida Department of Law Enforcement is investigating a deputy-involved shooting that happened Friday.
They said Sheriff's officials were attempting to stop a woman named Sherrie Jones.
Sheriff's officials said Jones was driving erratically, but kept driving until she reached her residence.
When a deputy was out of his patrol car trying to speak with Jones, she reportedly refused to leave her vehicle, put the vehicle in drive, and then accelerated toward the deputy.
Sheriff's officials said the deputy drew his weapon and fired at Jones. She was reportedly taken to the hospital for non-life threatening injuries.
They said Jones was then taken to the Franklin County Detention Center for aggravated assault on an officer. The case is under investigation.
Sheriff's officials said FDLE is investigating the deputy-involved shooting, while Franklin County Sheriff's Office and the State Attorney's Office is investigating Jones's case.
