FDLE investigating officer-involved shooting in Mexico Beach

UPDATE 04/10/2019 5:00 p.m.:

We're told the man was wanted on 12 warrants out of Pasco County and Grand Theft charges in Franklin County.

Officials say the officer involved is on administrative leave, which is standard procedure.


UPDATE 04/10/2019 12:56 p.m.:

The Bay County Sheriff's Office says the man who was shot has died from his injuries.


A man is in the hospital after an officer involved shooting in Mexico Beach earlier this morning.

According to the Bay County Sheriff's Office, the incident occurred when Mexico Beach police responded to the Rustic Sands Campgrounds to pick up a man wanted on warrants out of Franklin County. Once on scene, officers were confronted by the subject, who was armed with a firearm. Bay County deputies responded to assist.

An officer shot the suspect who has been taken for medical care to a local hospital.

The Florida Department of Law Enforcement will conduct the investigation into the shooting.
