More than a dozen tenants will be given shelter after an early morning fire destroyed 18 units at an Okaloosa County apartment complex Sunday.

According to Okaloosa County officials, the fire happened at the Pier One apartment complex in unincorporated Fort Walton Beach.

Multiple fire departments, the Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Office and Okaloosa County EMS responded to the fire.

Officials said no one was killed or injured.

EMS and area fire departments were called out just before 4 o'clock Sunday morning.

Officials said the responding agencies continued to put out hot spots and stamp out embers into the late morning.

Nineteen people will reportedly be given shelter by the county at a facility at the Okaloosa County Fairgrounds.

“We give thanks that there was no loss of life or injuries,” said representative for the district, Commissioner Carolyn Ketchel, “The beauty of this community is that whenever there is a tragedy like this, our community rises to the occasion. I expect there will be an outpouring of support in material goods, spiritual and emotional support.”

County Emergency Manager Ken Wolfe asked people to avoid the area while they continue work on the aftermath of the fire.
