JACKSON COUNTY, Fla. (WJHG/WECP) - Monday was the first day of school for students in Jackson County.
While many children are heading to school for the first time, many principals and staff are also taking on new roles.
Staff at Golson Elementary School in Marianna spent the summer decorating the halls with murals to welcome teachers and students.
"This is our mirror wall. We are so excited about this," Golson Elementary Principal Amy Allen said. "We've been collecting mirrors. We've had a lot of help putting this together, just another reminder to the children that we believe in them. They can be leaders and we're wanting to see them prosper this year."
Golson Elementary, Riverside Elementary, and Marianna Middle School have one more first day of school next year before they all move into the new Marianna K-8 school expected to open in 2020.
