First nonstop flight from Kansas City arrives in Bay County
For the first time in our area people can now fly from Kansas City Missouri straight to Bay County.
The first nonstop flight from Kansas City landed at the Northwest Florida Beaches International Airport Saturday afternoon. Passengers say they're happy they can finally fly to Panama City Beach without connecting flights.
"We had some family members that left at 8:30 this morning(Saturday) and just got here about an hour ago we left at 2 o'clock this afternoon and just got here. It's just hassle free wheels up you're in the air. Wheels down and you're at your destination," said Kansas City Angela Leggio.
The flight was welcomed in with a water cannon salute and passengers received gifts from the airport. Airport Executive Director Parker McCellan said this will help bring more visitors to our area.
"Anytime we can grow our service and increase the opportunity for our residents to go other places and more importantly for visitors to come to our beaches that's what were all about," said McClellan.
Mcclellan said they plan to add more nonstop flights from cities around the country.
