BAY COUNTY, Fla. (WJHG/WECP) - You may be prepared for hurricane season, but how about wildfire season? The Florida Forest Service held a meeting Wednesday at the Bay County Emergency Services Operations Center to talk about that.

Firemen, volunteers, and large landowners were invited to come out and hear how the FFS is preparing for wildfire season.

Part of the meeting looked at Hurricane Michael's effect on area forests and the lessons learned from recent wildfires.

Wildfire Communications Specialist Steve Weherley said the main point of the meeting was to establish the importance of communication among all fire stations with the FFS.

"These times are different, as everybody knows, so communication is one of the primary concerns when we're on these larger fires and we have to be able to talk and communicate with our large landowners, with our local volunteer fire departments, and with our local governments," said Weherley.

The meeting also contained information for volunteer fire departments to apply for grants.
