Florida flies up to new transportation ranking

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WJHG/WECP) - As of Friday, not everything is bigger in Texas.

Governor Rick Scott announced Friday that according to the Federal Aviation Administration, Florida's airports now rank second in the nation in airline passenger volume, surpassing Texas.

California claims the first place spot.

Governor Scott credits this increase in travelers to $10.6 million in grants given by the Department of Transportation to improve eight Florida airports.

Our local airports have seen more passengers as well.

Northwest Florida Beaches International official said they saw the highest amount of travelers ever over the Fourth of July holiday.
