Free public transportation will take people from DeFuniak Springs to Santa Rosa Beach via Highway 331.

The buses will make stops at the Walton County Courthouse, Freeport Business Commons, and the South Walton annex.

Senior transportation planner for Walton County, Matthew Lambert, says as soon as they sign a contract with a company that will hire bus drivers, they will begin operating.

"It will be able to move your service workers. It'll be able to move county employees. It'll be able to move people that live in the north end of the county, or the south end that want to go either way, come down to the beach or be able to go up north to DeFuniak," said Lambert.

The total cost of the bus operation will be $1 million.
