Freeport man dies in single vehicle crash in Santa Rosa County

SANTA ROSA COUNTY, Fla. (WJHG/WECP) In Santa Rosa County, Florida Highway Patrols reports a fatal, single-vehicle crash occurred on Friday at 8:35 p.m.

Officials say a 2007 Kia Sorento was driving eastbound on Interstate 10 when the driver lost control after being passed by a Semi. They say the vehicle rotated clockwise and hit the guard rail on the south shoulder.

According to the press release, "After striking the guard rail, [the vehicle] became detached from the trailer being towed."

They say the trailer went under the vehicle and the vehicle came to rest facing west. The trailer came to rest facing east.

The driver, Genevieve Hamilton, 75, of Freeport and the passenger, Carl Hamilton, 72, of Freeport were taken to North Okaloosa Medical Center.

Officials say Carl Hamilton was pronounced deceased at North Okaloosa Medical Center.

This is an ongoing investigation.
