Georgia man drowns behind Twin Palms condos

A Georgia man is dead after he drowned behind the Twin Palms Condominiums late Tuesday night.

According to the Panama City Beach Police Department, Vyacheslav Zaytsev, 27, was found unresponsive at the edge of the water around 11:50 p.m. Tuesday night. Police and fire rescue preformed CPR on him but he was pronounced dead at the scene.

Based on statements from the family, it is believed alcohol consumption combined with high surf conditions contributed to his death. The family acknowledged the double flags and said they warned Zaytsev of surf conditions earlier that evening.

The official cause of death is under investigation and will be determined at a later date by the medical examiner's office.
