GULF COUNTY, Fla. (WJHG/WECP) - Soon those in Gulf County can go on the beaches with no unusual restrictions.

Gulf County beaches and boat ramps will open for regular use at 12:01 a.m. on May 1. (WJHG/WECP)

Commissioners voted to allow the beaches to open as normal starting at 12:01 a.m. on May 1.

Any rules that were enforced before COVID-19 are still in place.

Social distancing and avoiding groups of 10 or more is still required.

Commissioners say they're looking forward to getting locals back on the beach.

"We know that the governor's rental ban is still in effect so we thought it would be a great time for the locals to get out and enjoy the beaches before the tourists start coming," said Commissioner Sandy Quinn.

The boat ramps will also be open for public use starting at 12:01 a.m. on May 1.
