Gulf County wildfire now spans 800 acres
A wildfire that started about five miles south of Wewahitchka, Tuesday, continues to burn..
According to officials with the Florida Forest Service for the Chipola District, as of 7 a.m. Wednesday, the fire spans 800 acres.
They say the fire started after an un-authorized burn escaped and got out of control.
Emergency crews with Bay and Gulf counties are still trying to put the fire out. Tuesday night, the fire was 40 percent contained but an update is not known yet because of the winds that are causing the fire to spread.
Officials say no structures or homes were damaged or are in danger at this time, since the fire is mainly in a rural area.
They say they aren't sure yet how long it will take to contain it.
