BAY COUNTY, Fla. (WJHG) - It's Teacher Appreciation Week, and one way we like to show teachers gratitude is by giving out the Golden Apple award each week to a deserving teacher in our area. This week's Golden Apple goes to Haley Cain of Breakfast Point Academy.
Cain is the middle school autism teacher for math and science at Breakfast Point Academy.
"Serving students with autism is just an unbelievable experience, and it's unique, very unique from any other teacher experience and so I've learned a lot in the last couple years I've been doing that," Cain said.
This is her second year teaching in Bay County and Cain said becoming a teacher was an easy choice.
"I love people and I love progress and I love seeing people make progress and I think that's why I chose teaching as my profession and I just feel like I have a lot of love to give because I've been given a lot of love," Cain said.
Cain incorporates a lot of hands-on learning to ensure her kids are getting the same experience as any other student.
"I want those kids to have the same opportunities as those kids without disabilities have as well, and it also makes it a lot more practical and meaningful for them because they can apply it to a way that they can potentially use it in the future," Cain said.
Cain said she hopes her students leave knowing they are loved and have a sense of accomplishment
