BAY COUNTY, Fla. (WJHG/WECP) - Many Northwest Florida residents have already pitched in to help Hurricane Irma victims, and Haney Technical Center is also doing their part.

Students and staff started collecting non-perishable food, water, and toiletries Friday. Since then, several Lynn Haven businesses have also taken part.

"I know a lot of people personally who were affected so I just decided to go talk to a few companies. A lot of people were really willing to give," Mark Hicks, a student and School Advisory Representative, said.

Tuesday afternoon, they boxed everything up and dropped it off at the Bay County Sheriff's Office (BCSO). A team from BCSO filled up a trailer and is heading to Collier County.

"People were really ready to give," Hicks said gratefully. "Panama City people are good people. I'm not just saying that because I'm from here. But yeah I learned a lot and I was really appreciative. Thank you, everybody."

Haney will continue collecting items through at least Friday in the Student Services Building. Another nearby Sheriff's Office will take those supplies in a few days.
