Officials with the Florida Department of Health in Bay County say they're ramping up testing for COVID-19 in June.

With the goal of testing about 4,000 people for the virus this month, officials have already announced two drive-thru testing sites and plan to release other testing option dates for the community.

Heather Kretzer with the Florida Department of Health in Bay County says as more people are tested, the number of cases will likely go up. Currently, there is a three percent positive rate in the county.

"We need to make sure we are watching out for those positive percentages, hospitalizations, and deaths in particular as we move through it," said Kretzer. "The social distancing measure that were put in to place were put there to reduce the burden on the medical system and protect the most vulnerable."

The first drive-thru site will be held at the DOH-BAY located at 597 W 11TH ST, Panama City, FL 32401. Testing will be on Monday, June 8 from 5:30 P.M. until 7:30 P.M.

The second drive-thru site will be held at the parking area next to the Seahaven Beach Resort located at 15191 Front Beach Road, Panama City Beach, FL 32413. Testing will be on Tuesday, June 16 from 9:00 A.M until 1:00 P.M.
