PANAMA CITY BEACH, Fla. (WJHG/WECP) - Enterococci bacteria levels were high at Panama City Beach City Pier, Delwood Beach, Beach Drive, and Dupont Bridge causing the Florida Department of Health to issue a healthy beaches advisory.

According to the Florida Department of Health, the presence of enteric bacteria can be an indication of fecal pollution.

Healthy beaches advisories are issued to protect swimmers from gastrointestinal illnesses, upper respiratory infections, skin rashes, and ear infections.

Health officials say healthy beach advisories are not related to Necrotizing fasciitis.
