SOUTHPORT, Fla. (WJHG/WECP) - A local non-profit is opening its gates to give livestock living in Hurricane Florence's path a safe haven.
Heartland Rescue Ranch in Southport can house at least ten horses or other animals at its facility.
Pastures are available, and employees said they will do it what it takes to help, even when it comes to transportation.
"If it was my animals and I was in that kind of situation to try to find somewhere to take a 1,200-pound horse, you know, this place is open for horses," Heartland Rescue Ranch's Deanna Loomis said. "I mean, animals are more than just an animal to people. It's family."
If you know any evacuees Heartland can help, they can call (850) 960-4543 or send a message to the Facebook page.
