Herman Williams, former Marianna High School basketball standout, collapsed and died Monday

MARIANNA, Fla. (WJHG/WECP) - Bulldogs basketball star Herman Williams collapsed and died Monday afternoon while working out on a local court in Jackson County.

Herman was not only a standout athlete who was bound for the University of Louisiana Lafayette in August, but he was a very well liked young man in school, and all over Marianna.

One of his former coaches Travis Blanton told NewsChannel 7 Sports Monday night there's nobody that didn't like Herman. He says he was a great kid in every way.

The man who coached him in his senior season, Matt Anderson, spoke to NewsChannel 7 Sports while riding back to Marianna from Gulf Coast where his team was playing in a summer camp.

Matt says Herman was an incredibly hard worker, a great team leader, vocal, put the team first! Just a great young man, very cordial, mannerly, knew how to act and carry himself, personified a "high character" student athlete.

Williams, who just turned 19 Sunday, a 6 foot 2 inch shooting guard who could do it all, score, rebound, pass, was a good defender.
