Hired caretaker accused of stealing from elderly woman

BAY COUNTY, Fla. (WJHG/WECP) - A Bay County woman is accused of stealing from an elderly woman she was caring for.

Bay County Sheriff's Deputies arrested Gloria Hillsman, 34, was arrested and charged with criminal use of personal identification information of a person over 60 and grand theft.

Deputies say Hillsman worked as a caretaker through a living-assistance service for an 87-year-old woman. They say Hillsman went to the victim's home and checked on her and was supposed to attend her needs. Deputies say during that time, Hillsman helped the victim set up a debit card with a PIN number.

Deputies say the victim found unauthorized charges to the account totaling more than $900. Some of the charges were at a restaurant, a tire store, an auto parts store, and a discount store, along with ATM withdrawals and charges for groceries.
