LYNN HAVEN, Fla. (WJHG/WECP) - A Lynn Haven cancer center is getting ready to start a more than $1 million expansion project by building a comprehensive cancer facility.

Hope Radiation Center held a groundbreaking ceremony Wednesday.

Construction crews will build a new two story structure next to the existing radiation center.

A multi-specialty cancer group will come in and offer more services all under one roof, including chemo therapy and urology.

"If we can bring in a multi-specialty group with chemo therapy and urology within the same facility, then the patients don't have to travel to different offices," Dr. Hasan Murshed explained. "They don't have to go out of town to the specialty cancer treatment."

Dr. Murshed said it'll be much more convenient for patients.

"I think we're blessed to have a very good community. We love our patients," he said. "Patients love us back. So the fact that we will be able to provide comprehensive cancer care through a multi-specialty group in one place, is a benefit to all of us."

The project will cost more than $1.3 million, and the new building's expected to open in about six months.
