With Governor DeSantis’ recent announcement that students would continue distance learning this year, Jackson County officials are working on plans to celebrate seniors.
Officials say they started discussions Monday on how to hold graduation ceremonies or honor seniors in some way.
They say they’ve looked into virtual graduations or even drive-in style ceremonies.
Superintendent Larry Moore says honoring seniors and their accomplishments is a top priority for them and they hope they can proceed as planned as long as it’s safe to do so.
Moore said, “Hopefully by the middle of this week, we will have an alternative plan. Our hope and prayer is that we can move ahead with our normal schedule and begin our graduations on May 18 as we have scheduled.”
Walton County officials say over the next few days they’ll be looking into different options to celebrate seniors. Some include virtual graduations or using small groups to hold ceremonies.
