BAY COUNTY, Fla. (WJHG) - Jamie Hewitt was born and raised in Panama City, and teaching runs in the family.
Jamie Hewitt from Hilland Park Elementary School wins the Golden Apple. (WJHG)
"My mom, she's a Pre-K teacher. I've been around it since I was 18 years old and around Pre-K, so I just really love it, I didn't know that's what I wanted to be whenever I was a kid, and I love it, it's pretty much the best job ever," Hewitt said.
Stepping into this role was an easy choice, Hewitt is tasked with making her student's first year in school successful.
"Their attention span is about 10 minutes, everything has to change in a very fast pace, so we are doing centers like every 10 minutes, basic skills, counting, they're starting to do math, adding, and they're writing," Hewitt said.
Her classroom is also filled with fun, with singing and dancing to practice their ABC's and 123's.
"Just seeing them grow at the end of the year, just seeing how much they've learned, how far they have came, there is so much more expected from them, so it's very very important to have them ready for kindergarten," Hewitt said.
This Golden Apple winner is preparing her students to stand-out in kindergarten and beyond.
