GULF COUNTY, Fla. (WJHG) - This week's Golden Apple winner is no stranger to awards, she's won teacher of the year two times. Congratulations to Krissy Gentry of Port St. Joe Elementary.
Krissy Gentry has been teaching for more than 30 years. She always knew she wanted to be a teacher.
"I love seeing the student's faces light up when they get a concept, I love when they give you hugs," Gentry said.
Gentry makes her classroom a fun learning environment by using technology and games, but she also focuses on teaching her students acts of kindness.
"It could be something like complement a classmate, write a letter to a custodian, pick up the trash on the campus and I think it's all about kindness and getting along. I always try to instill in my students to be kind to each other and live by the golden rule," Gentry said.
Each day students complete a simple act of kindness and her students have nothing but kind things to stay about their teacher.
"She's nice, she's kind, she's helpful, she's smart," Gentry's student, Arleigh Nus said.
It's no surprise she's won teacher of the year at Port St. Joe Elementary twice.
"I love what I do and I enjoy coming to work every day," Gentry said.
Gentry is teaching her students a small act of kindness can really go a long way.
