PANAMA CITY BEACH, Fla. (WJHG/WECP) - Many walked along the beach Saturday, taking in more than just the beautiful view.

Volunteers stretched over two miles of beach, from the Bikini Beach Resort to Hampton Inn and Suites. (WJHG/WECP)

They're also taking in trash on the beach.

Keep PCB Beautiful and other groups and businesses came together to host a Leap Day beach cleanup.

Volunteers stretched over two miles of beach, from the Bikini Beach Resort to Hampton Inn and Suites.

Organizers say a cleaner beach encourages people to throw away their trash.

"If we have a beautiful, clean, beach for people to come visit then they respect our beaches more and they have pride in our beach. When that happens, less people will throw their trash out, because it's kinda like that like-mindedness. We get everybody thinking about it and conscious about it," said Kim Christian, with Keep PCB Beautiful.

Volunteers picked up more than 1,200 pounds of trash.
