29 animals have been rescued and brought to Alaqua Animal Refuge.

28 dogs and puppies and one cat were rescued from various places in Liberty County.

The Liberty County Sheriff's Office helped rescue the animals, but Liberty County does not have an animal shelter.

Alaqua founder Laurie Hood said they set up their emergency shelter to accommodate the overflow at the refuge.

The animals are being evaluated and spayed and neutered before they will be up for adoption.

Alaqua Animal Refuge is looking for volunteers and donations to help with their operations. More information can be found on www.alaqua.org.
