Local airport and first responders practice for emergencies

BAY COUNTY, Fla. (WJHG/WECP) - To be prepared for an emergency at the airport, local first responders ran an emergency drill exercise Friday at the Northwest Florida Beaches International Airport.

Exercises were run for emergency response, triage, and family assistance. (WJHG/WECP).

Emergency response agencies from Bay County, Panama City, Panama City Beach, Lynn Haven, Bay County EMS, and other nearby emergency response agencies exercised different procedures in the event of an actual emergency. Students from Bay and Arnold High School helped in the exercise, acting as victims or families members. Exercises were run for emergency response, triage, and family assistance.

"All of the agencies that don't normally work out of here, the sheriff's department, the local fire departments, Bay County, don't normally come out here and work, so we want to familiarize them with what they have to do in the case of an emergency here at the airport," Deputy Executive Director of Northwest Florida Beaches International Airport, Richard McConnell said.

The Federal Aviation Administration requires airports to conduct safety drill every three years.
