Local airport taking precautions amid coronavirus concerns
It was a busy morning at Northwest Florida Beaches International Airport on Thursday as travelers flew in from, and out to, their destinations.
And airport leaders and board members talked about protecting the airport from the threat of the coronavirus.
Executive Director Parker McClellan briefed attendees on the steps the airport is taking.
He said as they approach spring break season they are closely following the recommendations of the CDC and health department to ensure the safety of the higher number of passengers this time of year.
"Trying to make an effort to work very hard to increasing the wiping down of high-touch areas, putting hand sanitizers in the terminal, doing a variety of things to increase the awareness as it's related to COVID-19," said McClellan.
He also added in the event an airplane arrives with any sick passengers, there is a designated holding area for the plane so they can conduct proper testing and evaluation of possible patients.
