Local doctor offering 'world's smallest pacemaker'

BAY COUNTY, Fla. (WJHG) - Some cutting edge medical technology is being offered right here in Bay County. A guest joined us in our studio with more.

Cardiac Electrophysiologist Dr. Hari Baddigam says our area is utilizing the latest technology when it comes to heart medicine. Called the Micra transcatheter pacing system, the leadless device is about the size of a vitamin capsule. It is placed in the heart via a vein in the leg, so there is no chest incision, scar, or bump that results from conventional pacemakers.

For most patients, the Micra design translates to fewer medical complications and fewer post-implant activity restrictions.
