PANAMA CITY, Fla. (WJHG/WECP) - Local organizations came together Saturday to make sure the community had one day where they didn't have to worry about being hungry.
They gave out fresh fruit and veggies for people to take home. (WJHG/WECP)
Ascension Sacred Heart Bay partnered with Feeding the Gulf Coast to hold a food distribution at Immanuel Baptist Church in Millville.
They gave out 10,000 pounds of food and served 400 people. They gave them fresh fruit and veggies to take home.
Workers there said they were glad to be able to do this when so many people are still in need after Hurricane Michael.
Sister Grace, the Chaplain at Ascension Sacred Heart Bay, said, "It's the heart of humanity. It is what binds us together, we all have a common need for food, and shelter, and connection, and so to be able to work together, partner together, and know that people are going home with a full cupboard is the greatest gift."
Money for the food came from a grant from the St. Joe Community Foundation.
