FRANKLIN COUNTY, Fla. (WJHG/WECP) - The Franklin County Sheriff's Office is beefing up its team by adding a furry, four-legged deputy.

Brew is a one-year-old Belgian Malinois who came all the way from Hungary to join the force.

According to Sheriff AJ Smith, the K-9 was donated to the sheriff's office by Franklin County local Doug Cone, who owns a beer company called Cone Distributing.

Sheriff Smith says the new addition will be helpful as the county battles a drug epidemic.

"We're going to start a meth campaign, another very aggressive meth media campaign in January and this will just be a huge asset to us as we continue to battle the meth epidemic that we have here and hopefully it'll be a deterrent. People will know we have another dog, another canine that we can utilize on the street," Franklin County Sheriff AJ Smith said.

Brew isn't quite ready to start catching the bad guys. He and his handler have to undergo a 12-week training program first.
