Local travel during busy Thanksgiving season

PANAMA CITY BEACH, Fla. (WJHG/WECP) - Last week was one of the busiest travel weeks in years as millions of people flew across the country to celebrate Thanksgiving with their loved ones.

Northwest Florida Beaches International Airport was no exception.

Although specific numbers have not been released yet, Parker McClellan, Executive Director of the Airport, says despite the challenges they faced he was proud of the outcome.

"Everybody this year seemed to have a smile on their face. It was much more successful than we've had in the past. Usually, you can feel a little bit of the tension but this year was kind of a unique holiday," he said.

McClellan says some of those unique changes like parking overflow were brought on because of Hurricane Michael. Still, the airport was able to accommodate this year's new challenges in stride.
