The Vietnam Veterans of America gifted Christmas trees to 18 veterans at the Bay County Veteran Center Wednesday. The chapter out of Tallahassee handed out the gift. The veterans also received money left over from the nonprofit's disaster relief fund.
"It's helpful because it gets you that one extra gift or that extra plate of food on the table for the holidays. I didn't know if I was going to put up a Christmas tree this year until they asked me if I wanted one, it really put me in the Christmas spirit," said veteran Alex Burnhisel.
"They're my brothers and sisters, and I know if the tables were turned, they'd be helping me. So, it's an honor and a privilege to be in a position to help other people," said Joe West, President of the Vietnam Veterans of America Big Bend Chapter 96.
The Vietnam Veterans of America continue to help local veterans after Hurricane Michael.
