Longtime Supervisor of Elections not running again
The same Supervisor of Elections has reigned in Jackson County for the past 30 years. But Monday, Sylvia Stephens announced she is not going for the 31st.
Stephens said she's ready to pass along the job and spend more time with her family.
She says she's seen the industry grow from handwritten cards and lists, to now where most things are digital.
She says leaving her position is bittersweet.
“I just feel so fortunate that 30 years ago I, with my husband Henry’s support and guidance, we talked about it and I got out and worked hard and I felt like I could learn and I did,” Stephens said.
In all 30 years of being in the position, Stephens only had one opponent run against her.
