Saturday, December 31st, is the last day you can make a donation to qualify.

Bob Jaros with Liberty Tax Services gave NewsChannel 7 a few tips to make sure you're within the guidelines.

"Well, you have to have it dated for the end of this year if you want to deduct it for the coming year. In addition, they should get a receipt for whatever donation they have they're making. Get it from the organization," explained Jaros.

He also added that it has to be to a qualified organization.

"You cannot give a donation to a country club for example which is a social type thing. That's not acceptable. It has to be an approved charitable organization," Jaros specified.

Jaros continued by saying that for the most part, churches automatically qualify.

He also noted that your donation cannot exceed more than 50% of your adjusted gross income.
