WASHINGTON COUNTY, Fla. (WJHG/WECP) - When a teenager was arrested on drug charges in Washington County, he used his time in jail to better himself.
Monday, Sheriff Kevin Crews presented John Morris, 19, of Vernon, with his GED.
Morris was arrest four months ago on felony drug charges. While in the Washington County Jail, Morris took classes and studied.
"We believe programs, such as these, provide a way for inmates to move forward from the situation that landed them in our jail," Sheriff Crews said.
Morris says after he serves his sentence, he plans to go to Florida Panhandle Technical College.
"I've learned my lesson," Morris told Sheriff Crews.
Sheriff Crews says he looks forward to seeing Morris' future. He also says he and the sheriff's office will be there to help Morris at any time.
