22 Year-old man dies after early morning Crestview shooting

CRESTVIEW, Fla. (WJHG/WECP) - UPDATE 10/05/2017 9:30 a.m.:

The Crestview Police Department was informed that the victim of Wednesday's shooting at the Crape Myrtle Apartments died at 4:25 Thursday afternoon of his wounds. Richard "RJ" Lee was 22 years old.

Officials say the shooting is now considered a homicide. The police department, with the assistance of the Florida Department of Law Enforcement, is actively investigating the incident. UPDATE 10/04/2017 5:30 p.m.:

Crestview Police have released the name of the victim. They say Richard Earl Lee King, 22, of Crestview, is still in critical condition after being shot in the head.

At this time no suspects have been identified and anyone with information about the incident should call the police.

The Crestview Police Department and Florida Department of Law Enforcement are investigating a shooting Wednesday at the Crape Myrtle Apartments that left a man in critical condition.

Officers responded to reports of shots fired at the apartment complex around 1:23 a.m. and found a 22-year-old man with a gunshot wound to the head.

Officers say the victim's car had several bullet holes in it and had backed into another car. Investigators say they found several shell casings on the scene and blood in another car with a Texas license plate.

“We’re trying to follow a couple leads as to the shooter’s identity and what had transpired," said Criminal Investigations Department Sgt. Ray Harp.

Officers believe there were several witnesses to the crime, but no one has stepped forward.

The victim was taken to a local hospital where he is listed in critical condition.
