Mark Sheldon to be next Panama City Beach Mayor
The votes are in and Panama City Beach has a new mayor.
Mark Sheldon won the mayoral race Tuesday by beating Josie Strange with nearly 60% of the vote. Sheldon said he’s happy the people selected him as their next mayor and he’s ready to go to work.
“Even though there’s many things many challenges ahead of us right now with COVID-19, the beaches being closed; We have a lot of work to do in moving forward getting the work done is what’s important. The residents put their trust in me to get the work done and now it’s time to be a servant for our community,” said Sheldon.
With the COVID-19 crisis still ongoing and the beaches closed Sheldon will be stepping in as Mayor during a tough time in the city’s history. But Former Panama City Beach Mayor Mike Thomas believes Sheldon is ready.
“Mark won’t face any challenges. He’s used to doing business and will do a good job with it. He’ll have different opinions than many other people and me but hopefully, he’ll get his will done and make the city a better place,” said Thomas.
Sheldon said that he would also like to thank his family, his team and his friends and everyone else in the community for helping him win the election.
Sheldon is set to be sworn into office this Thursday at 9 AM.
