MARIANNA, Fla. (WJHG/WECP) - Exit 142 off Interstate 10 in Marianna is booming with businesses, but things at exit 136 are very quiet.
For more than a year, officials have tossed around ideas about how to revitalize the West End Corridor from Highway 90 to the interstate.
County and city officials submitted a joint application to the American Planning Association in 2016.
"If you are selected, then they will send a team of planners from across the United States to your community and they will develop an economic/community development plan," Marianna City Manager Jim Dean said.
The planning association accepted Marianna's application-- and some said that's a cause for celebration.
The Marry Marianna Celebration will be held at Madison Street Park and will include a ceremony, wedding cake, and local talent and vendors.
"We'll also have a newlywed game, which is another way of saying trivia because you're marrying the city," Marianna Municipal Development Director Kay Dennis said.
The idea behind the celebration is to get locals excited and to get their input on the West End Corridor Project.
The APA team will be at the celebration to listen to the public's ideas for the West End.
The Marry Marianna Celebration will be Monday, February 26th from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m.
The planning team will also be at two public meetings at the Ag extension office on Pennsylvania Avenue next Tuesday and Thursday at 6:00 p.m.
